About

Mbwa Now Mine_ (2026) continues Kabena Godelive Kasangati’s speculative inquest into archival, technical, and indeterminate reproductions of images of the barkless, curly-tailed, and independent stock of dogs known as Basenji, one of the oldest breeds in the world whose origins are traced to Central Africa.

For Godelive, the photograph of the Basenji dog offers a possibility through which a picture, while often accused of being frame-oriented, can rely on experiential value. This value itself becomes a means of reproduction, using mise-en-scène as both form and platform.
