About
What happens when sounds from the past touch the present? Resonaciones begins by awakening the sounds and frequencies made by whistling vessels from the Andean Moche culture, held in the ethnological collections at the Linden Museum. They are brought to life by the artists Nicole L’Huillier and Francisca Gili, under the guidance of the Mochica healer and cultural activist Karen Urcia. Through processes of listening and the sensory reception of these sounds, and of transformation and imagination, the ifa Gallery becomes an immersive soundscape. The centuries-old technology of the whistling vessels, with their ability to communicate with non-human life forms is combined with today’s technologies – including artificial intelligence. Sound becomes a medium that sharpens perception, expands the worlds of the imagination, and awakens memories. In a gesture of returning, the sounds will travel to Huaca de la Luna (Temple of the Moon) in Peru, which is a key site for Moche culture, providing an impulse to ask new questions concerning the colonial past and present and also to look for traces of the dawn of a new age and spaces of the future.
