Gallery 1957 is proud to present our first solo show of 2024, Kelvin Haizel’s ‘We Do Not Sleep to Dream’ curated by Ato Annan. Haizel’s approach to abstraction borrows aesthetics from local paint shop environments, wherein different surfaces exist as a swatch board for paint samples. The inspiration and process behind these works is accumulative and imbued with a spirit of existential inquiry. The paintings begin to operate in the realm where touch, vision, and interpretation converge, inviting audiences to engage with layers of meaning beyond the customary confines of abstractions. The exhibition is accompanied by a curatorial text by Ato Annan.
