About

Ana Ruiz is a curator, musician, improviser, and researcher based in Medellín, Colombia. As a violinist, she focuses on experimental music and improvisation, collaborating with musicians, writers, and artists inside and outside Colombia. In her curatorial work, she experiments with unconventional formats for exhibiting contemporary art, with a focus on interdisciplinary and collaborative practices. She is interested in the aural dimension of art based on an expanded interpretation of the visual, media and performing arts. Recently, her work has focused on questioning colonial metanarratives, opening up museum and exhibition spaces to unconventional artistic practices with non-Western approaches and, more recently, to the environmental, social and political dimensions of food.

Her artistic and research work has been presented at Radical Sounds Latin America (Germany), Festival International Tsonami de Arte Sonoro (Chile), IN/OUT Festival – ProHelvetia (Switzerland/Colombia), the University of Guadalajara (Mexico), Festival Spectra at the University of the Andes (Colombia), among others. Her texts have been published in Cimarron: Freedom and Masquerade (Thames & Hudson) and in the magazines Almanac - Struer Tracks Sound Biennale (Denmark), Border Listening (Germany), Aural (Chile), Revista UNAM (Mexico) and Contemporary And Latin America. She previously worked as a curator at the University of Antioquia Museum, the Auditum Sound Art Festival in Medellín, and as assistant curator of the 45th National Artists’ Salon of Colombia. She currently works as a curator at the Museum of Modern Art in Medellín (MAMM).
