About

La Vulcanizadora is the studio of artists and filmmakers María Rojas Arias and Andrés Jurado, where cinema, visual arts and theatre regularly intersect. Their work is characterised by an intense approach to archives and counter-archives linked to processes of historical memory, revolution, resistance, science fiction, colonialism and anti-colonialism, class struggle and political crossroads.

Located in present-day Colombia, La Vulcanizadora recognises the cultural heritage of Africa, Asia and other latitudes, establishing connections that span the Caribbean, the Amazon and the Orinoquía. The studio works with a diverse community of collaborators, living and dead, visible and invisible, who contribute from the fields of science, biology, philosophy, education, ethology, anthropology, history, music, literature, translation, knowledge, flavours, expertise and experiences, both dependent and independent, approaching production and institutionality in a provocative and critical manner.
