About

Born in El Salvador in 1972, Simón Vega graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from the Universidad Veracruzana, Mexico, in 2000 and obtained a Master’s Degree in Contemporary Art from the Complutense University of Madrid in 2006. Simón Vega’s recent work remains eclectic, jumping from drawing to installation, sculpture, animation, objects, wearable costumes, masks and more; it still focuses on spatial exploration, but expands beyond the space race to confront space and tourist colonisation, the lifestyles of digital nomads and cultural continuity.

He has exhibited his work extensively in Europe, the United States, and Latin America, including the 55th Venice Biennale, Italy (2013), the IX Havana Biennial, Cuba (2006), the Coachella Music Festival, Indio, California (2018), the Bronx Museum, New York (2019), and most recently at the Centre Pompidou, Paris, for the exhibition Cosmopolis 2 (2019). He has had solo exhibitions at the Parrish Art Museum, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, Costa Rica; Locust Projects, Miami; the Liliana Bloch Gallery, Dallas, Texas; and the Hilger Next Gallery, Vienna, among others. He lives in La Libertad, El Salvador.
