About

Efia Serwah Barning (b. 1998) is a Ghanaian artist and curator whose interdisciplinary practice spans collage, textile, printmaking, programming, and painting. She holds an MFA in Fine Art and Curation from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi. Rooted in feminist and decolonial frameworks, her work explores the instability of memory and the image, investigating how fragments, rumour, and silence produce layered and often contradictory realities. Inspired by fantasies and myths as a technology to deconstruct reality, her works reimagine archives as speculative, affective, and collective processes of meaning-making and space-building. Efia has participated in exhibitions across Ghana, Nigeria, the UK, and South Africa at notable venues such as Gallery 1957, The MIX Gallery, Chilli Arts Projects, and FNB Art Joburg. Efia is a Co-founder and curator of the queer publishing platform and print magazine known as WAHU Magazine. Efia also designs extracurricular programming for girls aged 10 to 17 at the Good Tree Community Centre, Teshie-Ghana. Efia is also the founder of Publishing Africa, a new online archive dedicated to exploring printing and publishing histories and traditions on the continent.
