About

Rooted in Caribbean practices of fishing and cooking, Breidy Manes Robledo’s work treats food, gestures, and materials as research tools through which territory, identity, memory, and shared experience become legible. Manes repeatedly asks where art resides: in the object, in the action, or in the encounter produced around it. His culinary and performative projects transform everyday life into a living archive activated through the senses. Gyotaku printing has become a key method in his practice: rather than functioning only as representation, the fish print operates as evidence of an event involving capture, preparation, chance, and exchange. His work is closely connected to fishing communities and river-sea ecologies around Barranquilla and Bocas de Ceniza.
