About

davi de jesus do nascimento is a barranqueiro artist, as he self-identifies, born and raised on the banks of the São Francisco River in northern Minas Gerais. Descended from washerwomen, fishers, carpenters, and boatmen, he works through attentive listening to territory, community memory, and the immaterial forces that shape riverine life. His practice moves across mediums into forms where body and territory continually overlap. Family archives, carrancas, fish, and what he calls “objects of stored waters” recur throughout his work, which treats the river as ancestry, material memory, and living measure of the world.
