About

Regina José Galindo is a visual artist and poet whose primary medium is performance. Working from Guatemala’s social and political context, she examines the ethical implications of structural violence, racial and gender discrimination, extractive power, and human-rights violations. Her performances often place the body in direct relation to histories and structures of violence, making visible the uneven distribution of vulnerability and power. Galindo received the Golden Lion for Best Young Artist at the 51st Venice Biennale in 2005, the Prince Claus Award in 2011, and the Robert Rauschenberg Award in 2021. Her work is held in major international collections including MoMA, Tate, Centre Pompidou, Guggenheim, and Museo Reina Sofía.
